While eating Jing-Mei goes back and forth with Waverly Jong, which results in Jing-Mei's feelings getting hurt. Although, Jing-Mei's mother offers her kind words and gives her a Jade necklace.

There she learned more about her sisters and her mother's past. After leaving Guangzhou her and her father left for Shanghai, where Jing-Mei met her 2 older sisters.
