- Harald Hardrada is angry that Harold Godwinson is king. He sets sail to England with over 300 ships from Norway, hoping to claim the English crown as his own. He had Tostig Godwinson on his side, Harald Godwinson’s own brother

- Harold Godwinson gathers housecarls (the strongest paid soldiers) and Fyrd (unpaid and not so trained soldiers) and marches 180 miles North to find Hardrada.
- Harald Hardada Dies
- Harold Hardrada’s men forget their armour on the ships and were scattered. This meant that there were less men and they weren’t protected. They would be very easy to defeat.
- Celebrations are cut short
- Harold Godwinson’s and Harold Hardrada’s men battle on Stamford Bridge. A lone axemen holds of the English until the axeman is killed from under the bridge.
- Harold Hardada is killed with an arrow to the throat. Now Hardrada is no longer a threat to Godwinson and cannot claim the English throne. Harold Godwinson thinks he’s won.
- Celebrations are cut short when William of Normandy invades. Harald Godwinson’s men are tired though, and are forced to fight.
