  • On this Monday morning, Mateo sees his friend Jacob, the human resources manager, already at work at his desk. Mateo wants to start the week off strong, so after getting a cup of coffee, he gets to work quickly. Scanning his document from his boss, he reads something strange near the bottom of the page.
  • Mornin' Mateo
  • ------------------------------------------
  • Hold on!?
  • “Cut manufacturing jobs in the United States and concentrate labor forces in Mexico in order to reduce costs … operation to take place immediately”Mateo realizes with a shock the implications of this. Due to NAFTA, many companies have begun to outsource jobs from the United States to Mexico, which is widely known to have lower labor costs and protections. Mateo, has always been an advocate for human rights, and he views this news in alarm:U.S manufacturing workers lose their jobs and workers in Mexico are given their jobs with pouring work conditions and restrictions put in place – a lower quality of life and a higher chance of DEATH.
  • Goal 4:“Cut manufacturing jobs in the United States and concentrate labor forces in Mexico in order to reduce costs … operation to take place immediately”
  • Mateo, still in shock how the company could nonchalantly do this in order to earn extra cash (prioritizing money over human lives), goes over to Jacob, as Mateo assumes Jacob would know more information than himself, being the human resources manager (who oversees documents and files about complying with laws).
  • Jacob, have you seen this? Robert is making preparations to cut jobs in the United States and move them to Mexico where there are less stringent laws on labor. Are we really prioritizing profit over human lives?
