- Hello, I'm Kenneth and I'm a survivor of Natural Selection. Let me tell you about my community.
- These fruits are the only food source for miles and they only ripen once a month. Every month they ripen at a different time. This means that every month there is a struggle between the monkeys over the fruits.
- This guy has a lot of fruits because he has worked out a pattern in how the fruits ripen. He is one of the first to get to them and gets a lot. Because he has so much food, he is strong and he's a dominant animal in the group.
- This mother is not as intelligent and was too late to have any fruit. Now she and her baby will go hungry.
- Non-intelligent monkeys (below) and intelligent monkeys (right).
- Eventually, the less intelligent monkeys will die out, because they are not getting enough food. The more intelligent monkeys will breed, and their babies will learn from them. Finally, all the monkeys will be clever and know about the pattern of the fruits.
- A Summary of Natural Selection Natural Selection is the process which results in organisms better adapted to their environment tending to survive and produce more offspring. It was first explained by Charles Darwin and is now recognised as the main part of evolution. How does it happen?- A problem is facing for example, the monkeys. - They need to adapt to their environment, to be able to survive. - Some monkeys have worked out how to do this, because they are more intelligent. - The intelligent monkeys have more food, and are thriving. - The less clever monkeys don't have enough food, and are dying out. - Eventually, the only monkeys that remain are the ones who have been able to adapt. - These monkeys will teach their babies and now the monkeys have evolved to live in their environment. This is Natural Selection.
