  • I'm still alone with no one to be with or anywhere to go.  I don't even feel connected at Temple.
  • As usual.  No one to talk to.  I think I'm going to get out of here.

  • Hmm... I guess it couldn't hurt to find out a bit more about this.
  • Bernice is lost her husband of >50 years two years ago.  Since then she feels like she doesn't really fit anywhere.  She feels uncomfortable with the couples with whom she and her husband used to be friends.  She hoped she would be able to find some new friends at Temple.
  • Hi. So you're interested in the "Havdalah Hevre" program?  Can I ask a few questions to help me figure out which group might be best for you?
  • Sure.  So I'm a widow.  I'd really like to connect with  other people who are also single and older lie me.
  • Bernice goes to Erev Shabbat services.  She sits alone.  She goes to the Oneg after services but feels like everyone has someone to talk to but her.  She just isn't comfortable approaching a group of people who are already speaking together.  She decides to leave.
  • I've been wanting to go and see that "Beyond Van Gogh" exhibit.  It closes this weekend.
  • Me too.  Would you like to go together?
  • Bernice is reading the weekly email blast from her temple.  It talks about a new program called "Havdalah Hevre."  It's supposed to help connect congregants with one another.  She figures she has nothing to lose by finding our some more information so she clicks on the link.
  • Bernice gets a call from the organizer of "Havdalah Hevre."  She seems friendly enough and like she really wants to help Bernice find a group where she will be comfortable.  They speak for a while and the organizer tells here she will hear from a group "convener."Bernice gets a call from Ellen who invites her to come to a potluck dinner and Havdalah this coming Saturday.
  • Bernice attends the dinner and finds that people are very friendly.  The group convener introduces her to Shelly who is also a fairly recent widow.  They begin to talk and discover that they share an interest in cultural events.  They decide to go together to see the "Beyond Van Gogh" exhibit that everyone has been raving about.  Neither one of them wanted to go alone.
  • Bernice and Shelly have a good time at the Van Gogh exhibit .  Bernice invites Shelly over for coffee and they decide to also invite Arlene. Bernice is gradually finding that there are people from Temple who share some of her interests.  She has become much more comfortable going to her Havdalah Hevre monthly dinner and often makes plans to meet one of her new friends for services on Friday night and they they often go out for dinner.
