  • Today we will be learning about the two types of waves, the parts of a wave, and the relationships between those parts. Then we will compare and contrast to different waves
  • ||| | | | | ||| | | | | | ||||
  • The first wave we will talk about is the mechanical wave. Mechanical waves or M waves for short can be both longitudinal and transverse. M waves need a medium and cannot travel through a vacuum, this means that they have to have substance of matter to transfer energy. from one place to another .
  • The second wave we will talk is the electromagnetic wave or E waves for short. E waves are always transverse waves. E waves do not need a medium and can travel through a vacuum , this means E waves can travel without the need of a substance of matter to transfer the energy
  • *Amplitude, How tall the wave is (transverse) the distance between particles(Longitudinal) *Wavelength, the distance between each eaveFrequency, the amount of waves in a certain period of time*Crest, the highest point of the wave *Trough, the bottom of a wave(transverse)*Compression, where the particles are closest *Rarefaction, where the particles are farthest(Longitudinal) *Cycle, One complete wave(transverse) Compression to compression/ rarefaction to rarefaction
  • Now you now what transverse waves and longitudinal waves look like but what are they,, and what are they made of.
  • The higher the Higher The Higher the LowerFrequency Energy Wavelength FrequencyEnergy Amplitude Wavelength EnergyFrequency Amplitude Wavelength Amplitude
  • The parts that make up waves have relationships with each other, this means that on part has an effect on another .
  • By looking at both waves we can know a lot of things. first we knows the sun waves or ultraviolet waves have a higher frequency than radio waves. This also tells us that radio waves have higher wavelengths than ultraviolet waves because we know the relationship between frequency and wavelength. We know both waves are transverse because they are going up and down. We know both are Electromagnetic waves because they both can travel through a vacuum.
