Snemalna Knjiga Besedilo

  • Empty
  • Dreams or Sadness or both?
  • Sliver Riches
  • Tom had brought Nick to come meet his mistress, Myrtle. All three of them got into a cab which, "...stopped at one slice in a long white cake of apartment-houses" (Fitzgerald 28). White can mean many things; empty, blank, and innocence. In this case white means empty, because Tom and Myrtle are both cheating on their wife and husband. They are both using each other for different things, money and something new.
  • Gatsby has thrown another party. "In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths..." (Fitzgerald 39). Gatsby never parties with the people he has over, he is just waiting for his dream to come to the party. Blue can have a couple different meaning, for example sadness or a dream. In this case it can mean both. Gatsby is sad that his dream, Daisy, still has not showed up to one of his parties but he will keep throwing them until she shows up.
  • In chapter 7, everybody had met up and were going to go to town. Mean while, "Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch, like sliver idols weighing down their own white dresses" (Fitzgerald 115), while they were waiting for the boys to get ready. Their white dresses can mean two very different things, emptiness and innocence's. In this case, it means emptiness. They were waiting for the men to get the alcohol and then head into town. But in the 1920's prohibition was going on and that is morally wrong.
