- Women began taking more and more important jobs. The Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory became an important feature of America's technology. They began to build a huge number of aircrafts, and many of the engineering was done in this laboratory. NACA, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics was developed during this time. It became focused on dominating the skies during the war and also other times. They built advanced aircrafts, that flew at supersonic and hypersonic speeds. As these groundbreaking developments occurred, calculations had to be done to determine the exact trajectories of the planes, and much more. The black computers that were hired worked only in the West Area Computing Group, separated from the white mathematicians. However, though segregation was still happening in the Laboratory, the colored women still received a prestigious occupation that played a pivotal role in the aeronautical technology of the United States.
