- Today you all will be writing an occasional poem! Think of a specific occasion, anything special or important that has or will happen, and write about it.
- How about your birthday, Lamont?
- My birthday comes in June and it ain't June. In fact, it's January and it's snowing. Days like this make June feel like a long, long ways away.
- Like what?! I don't feel like writing about no occasion.
- Ms. Marcus's coat looks very puffy, looks so warm and cozy. I bet she can't tell January from June
- Lamont's coat looks all down and damaged, and it looks like it's lost many feathers over time.
- Then write about January. That's an occasion.
- Should I write about Mama's funeral? I don't have any other ideas! Wait a second...
- Well, what about this...?
- I guess Ms. Marcus and Lamont arguing, on a Tuesday in January is a poem. So I guess this is an occasional poem.
- Ugh! I have no idea what to write about!
