- This scene is where Lina and Doon talk to Irene in chapter 12 and they figure out what the Mayor and Looper were doing. They wanted to expose the mayor, but people would not believe them. So, Irene suggests that they tell the guards instead and letting them take action.

- This scene is where Lina and Doon find a secret room in chapter 14. Lina and Doon found a locked room in the Pipeworks. They use the evidence from the instructions to find the key to the door and open it. Inside were candles, matches and boats.

- This scene is where Lina and Doon find posters about them in chapter 15. Lina and Doon wanted to leave Ember, but they found posters that said that they were “wanted”. They decide to run off and hide in the school.

- This scene is where Lina gets captured by the guards but manages to escape in chapter 16. Lina wanted to deliver her note to Clary, but got captured and sent to the Mayor's office. She escapes when the lights go out.

- This scene is where Lina and Doon eventually reach the other city in chapter 19. Lina and Doon have always wanted to find the other city, but there were always obstacles in their way. They overcame their challenges and reached the city in this scene.

- The scene is where Lina and Doon read the old woman’s notebook in chapter 20. Lina and Doon wanted to ask questions about the city, but there was no one around. So, they read the old woman’s notebook instead and learn about how people began living in Ember.
