- SCHOOL DANCE
- Daniel is a 13-year-old boy in the 8th grade. He is a "social oddity" because of his "zaps" that make him feel crazy. For example, he will flip a light switch on and off for no reason. Daniel plays football to please his dad, older brother, and best friend Max, but he really spends most of his time daydreaming or arranging water cups on the sidelines. He's writing a book called "The Last Kid on Earth," has a little sister named Emma, and a crush on a girl named Raya.

- The "Great Space" is even worse than usual. I can't feel. I can't think. Why am I so broken?
- One night in his room Daniel noticed a paper sticking out of his backpack. It was a note from someone called "Fellow Star Child."Daniel later learns that the note was from a girl at school nicknamed "Psycho Sara," who never talks to anyone. Sara tells him they are "Star Children" - with special intelligence, pure heart, and a bit eccentric. She asks for Daniel's help to find out why her father disappeared.

- Meanwhile, Daniel is also trying to impress his crush, Raya, but someone else asks Raya to the school dance before he can. Daniel and his friend Max go to the dance together, but Daniel leaves early when he sees Raya having fun with her date. Daniel feels a "zap" coming on and flicks the lights on and off at the dance, embarrassing himself. He runs home.

- Daniel and Sara find a gun in her mom's boyfriend's house, and think he killed her dad. They are terrified and hide under a bed when someone comes home. Daniel begins to realize Sara understands him.Daniel attends a party with friends at Raya's house and kisses her during a game of Spin the Bottle.
- Sara gives Daniel a book called OCD: How Compulsions Can Take Over Our Lives. He spends the whole night reading it. Daniel realizes for the first time that he has a disorder that explains all of his "zaps." He wasn't alone in the world. There are other people like him.

- It was up to Daniel to kick a field goal to win the championship football game. All eyes were on him and Daniel was really nervous. Then he noticed Sara watching from behind a goal post. She was holding a sign that says "Football Sucks." This made Daniel laugh so he relaxed and made a perfect kick to win the game. He was the hero of the day and felt good about making everyone so happy.
- Daniel and Sara discover that her mom's boyfriend John was not a murderer after all. Her dad had suffered from depression and sadly took his own life. John took Daniel and Sara to the cemetery so she could say goodbye. Daniel comforts Sara and tells her she's the most interesting person he has ever met.
- Daniel realizes how much his family means to him. He wasn't ready to tell them about his OCD, but he suddenly knew he could tell them at any time and they would still be there. He could stop hiding. He wouldn't be alone anymore.
