- My first memories of reading were my parents reading to me before bed when I was a little girl.
- I remember the first book I read on my own was Green Eggs and Ham in the doctor's office waiting room.
- In elementary school, it started to become apparent that I was not reading at the same level as the other kids.
- I began to work with special tutors and found ways to go about reading that worked and I finally began to enjoy reading again.
- At times, it felt like I was reading a brick wall when I was given texts. I began testing and was later diagnosed with dyslexia.
- As I grew up, I struggled with reading and it was never something I really enjoyed because it was always a struggle!
- I would get super stressed out when I was called on to read aloud in class. I also would be super frustrated that my little cousin could read better than I did.
- I started working with a private tutor who I felt really understood me! She taught me so many helpful tips and tricks and showed me how to finally enjoy reading. She is why I want to become a teacher.
- I am so excited to be at Penn State and learning to be the best teacher I can be. I want to help all of my students find ways to love reading and school the way I did, even if they need some extra help.
