- On the outside, Paige looks like any other ordinary 15 year old girl. However, Paige is nothing but ordinary. What most people don’t know is Paige has a special ability and instinct to know when others are in need of a little encouragement or pick-me- up. Paige does this secretly by spreading her magical gold glitter wherever she goes, turning anything it lands on into a picture with a motivational saying or quote. Many people in Paige’s community wonder how these sayings appear overnight on buildings, park benches, rocks or sidewalks. Paige likes to keep this special power a secret in order to bring happiness, encouragement and smiles to all.
- One warm and sunny day after school, Paige and her friends are at the local park hanging out. The afternoon is like any other afternoon where Paige and her friends gather on a park bench, and talk about their day. Out of the corner of her eye, Paige catches a glimpse of a young boy struggling with the monkey bars. She notices this young boy all alone trying hard to make it across each bar. With each attempt, the boy becomes increasingly frustrated, grunting with anger, and talking negatively about himself. Paige feels sorry for this boy and is unsure on how to help.
- *Paige hesitantly approaches the boy.*
- “Excuse me, do you need some help?” The monkey bars can be really tough, why don’t you try again.”
- After a few silent minutes, the boy pushes himself up and tries again. He leaps for the first bar, swings his legs in a quick motion and grabs the second bar with ease. As he is reaching for the next bar…
- THUD!!!!
- The boy falls to the ground. Before Paige could even offer to help another group of kids nearby sees the boy fall and begins laughing loudly at him. Paige recognizes one of these kids, Natalie from school. Paige sharply yells in their direction…
- “HEY! It’s not nice to laugh and put others down.”
- Natalie tries it for herself and falls to the ground!
- “Oh whatever, you guys made me mess up.”*Natalie gets up and stomps off.*
- “Well it’s not that hard watch me do it.”
- The next day Paige notices the young boy is back trying to make it across the monkey bars. Paige and Natalie both get up and walk towards the boy. “Hey, I’m Natalie. My friends didn’t mean to laugh at you yesterday.” We are here to help you. The monkey bars can be so hard.” The boy tries again with Natalie and Paige on each side of him yelling words of encouragement with each bar he reaches for. The boy is persevering with each swing and makes it across the entire set of monkey bars. The boy grins from ear to ear. Paige turns to the boy and says, “See what a positive mindset can do.”
- Later that evening, after the sun has gone down Paige fills her backpack up with gold glitter and heads to the park. When Paige arrives, no one is in sight. Paige reaches into her backpack, grabs a handful of gold glitter and throws it across the monkey bars. Before her eyes, the monkey bars are painted in bright yellow and each bar has an inspirational quote ready to encourage the next kid across to the other side. Paige is proud of her masterpiece, smiles with pride and quickly sneaks back home before anyone could see her.
