- The story started when, Napoleon conquered most of Italy in the name of the French Revolution by 1799. Napoleon was a military leader. He later crowns himself as emperor of France. Italy became part of the French Empire .Napoleon came up with the Napoleonic Code which focused on clearly written and accessible laws. It was a major step in replacing the previous patchwork of feudal laws.
