- Francisco Pizarro, a man who made adventures and had a group of treasure seekers, they had a small group of Spanish adventures eager to find the golden treasures their compatriots had found in the Aztec world of Mexico a decade earlier. Sailing down the Pacific coast from Panama in two small caravel merchant ships, they searched in Columbia and the Ecuadorian coast but could not find the gold they so desperately sought. This was Pizarro's 3rd expedition, and it seemed as his last chance for fame.
- In 1531, he carefully reached Claque on the Ecuadorian coast. They arrived a year later and continuously decreased the Spanish force from about 260+ men to about 62 being cavalry. As it moved on down to Tumbes, pilgrimages put their natives to swords. They formed a new settlement at San Miguel, making Francisco ready to make first contact with rulers by 1532.
- In November of 1532, Pizarro entered the city of Cajamarca , where Inca leader Atahualpa was celebrating his victory over his brother , Huascar, in the Inca civil war.
