  • Hey, Alex can you please help me? I don't understand the 5-Step Programming Process.
  • All of it.
  • Sure, Madison. What part are you not understanding?
  • The thing you need to know are the 5 basic steps:Step 1: Identify the ProblemStep 2: Design the SolutionStep 3: Write the ProgramStep 4: Test the ProgramStep 5: Document and Maintain the Program
  • When completing step 1 you need to ask yourself the question, What are you trying to do? You should do this because you need to figure out what you want the program to do before you start working. You should also figure out who will most likely use your program, and what data they will most likely plug into the program to make sure that your program can handle it.
  • Step 2: Design the Solution, is when you figure out how you want to do what you want to do. You split your one big problem into a lot of smaller problems, which are call sub-problems. You then go about completing the sub-problems until you get the desired result for your program.
  • After you complete step 3, you should start working on step 4, which is when you check your program for errors. You first run your program. Next, you read though your program looking for errors. Finally, you plug real-world data into the program to make sure that it functions properly.
  • For Step 3: Write the Program, you figure out which programming language you want to use to write the code and then you just follow that languages syntax while programming.
  • Oh, I get it now. Thanks for the help Josh!
  • Lastly you use comments in your code to document what you did so if you come back later you understand it.
