The Tempest

- Alonso the King of Naples, Ferdinand the King's son, Sebastion the King's brother, Gonzalo the King's counselor, and Antonio the Duke of Mullan are on a ship caught in a violent storm (Tempest). The sailors desperately try to get control of the boat but complain that the passages are getting in their way. Prospero caused the shipwreck using magic he has been racing on the island for 12 years since his brother, Antonio usurped him and took his title of Duke of Milan. Antonio worked with the King of Naples to have Prospero and Miranda (Prospero's daughter) die at sea on a rotten ship. Prospero uses Ariel a spirit and slave to get revenge. Ariel was imprisoned in a tree for 12 years by an evil witch Sycorax. Caliban is also a slave and the son of Sycorax and hates Prospero. Prospero treats Caliban badly because he tried to rape Miranda.
- "Ariel, you've done your work exactly as I ordered"
- Ferdinand (the King's son) is separated from the others when he hears Ariel singing. and follows the sound. Prospero is waking Miranda up and looks out the window so she can see Ferdinand. Ferdinand sees Miranda and falls in love at first sight saying the music must be for the goddess. Miranda also falls in love at first sight as she's never seen anything more noble-looking before. Ferdinand and Miranda falling in love is a part of Prospero's plan but he acts like he is opposed to this new love. This is so that their love won't crumble to trobles later on in their relationship
- (singing) "Come onto these yellow sands, And we'll join hands, When you've curtsied and kissed The waves into silence. Prance lightly here and there, And the sweet spirits bear The burden, Listen, listen."
- On the other side of the island are Sebastian, Antonio, Alonso, and Gonzalo. While thinking Ferdinand is dead Gonzalo tries to make Alonso feel better by getting him to see the optimistic side and to be thankful that they are still alive. Sebastian and Antonio make fun of Gonzalo for his speeches and even blame Alonso for the death of Ferdinand as they would be there if he had allowed his daughter to marry a European prince and not the King of Tunis. Ariel is invisible and plays music to all men to sleep except Antonio and Sebastion. The two men plot to kill Alonso and Gonzalo so Sebastian can be King. Just as they are about to kill them Ariel wakes Gonzalo but Sebastian and Antonio play it off by saying they heard a noise and were trying to protect everyone.
- "If these sleeping men were dead instead of sleeping, they'd be no worse off than they are now. There are a lot of men who can rule Naples just as well as this sleeping guy here can."
