- Introduction

- The attack
- Before the attack, Germany was trying to take over Europe including France. But the Allied powers were trying to stop them, leading to the attack.
- First wave
- Prior to the invasion, they slowed the Germans by attacking daily. They also used deception to trick where they think they will attack.
- Second wave
- They attacked during bad weather to surprise attack Germans and attack off guard. This gave the Germans little time to prepare. They attacked during a full moon to see, and high tide to avoid obstacles.
- Results
- They used paratroopers at night as the first wave and landed behind enemy lines. Their goal was to destroy targets and capture bridges for the main invasion squad to land on the beaches.
- They then dropped thousands of bombs on German defenses, and warships bombed the beaches. The main invasion force was able to land on the beaches of Normandy. The U.S. troops that landed on Omaha and Utah were able to take over the beaches.
- By the end of D-day, 150,00 troops landed and pushed inland for more troops to land safely. Over half a million Allied troops landed in France by June 17th, and began pushing Germany out of France.
