  • Reese constantly does reassuring acts to comfort Jude through her insecurities. The author explains to readers, "He was still wearing a T-shirt and boxers and suddenly she felt self-conscious, tugging the sheet over her breasts. 'stop what?' he said. 'Looking at me like that.' 'Why?' 'Because,' he said, 'you're nice to look at'" (Bennett 133). He is often complimenting Jude on her appearance knowing she often beats herself up due to her skin color. He is a very comforting and supportive boyfriend.

You're playin a dangerous game'" (Bennett 241). Reese tries to warn Jude that this friendship may not be ideal for her. He feels something bad will happen and if things were meant to be with their family then it would be.
