- The EastIndia Company was liquidated. Before the events of the sepoy uprising, it was avirtual monopoly, half state and half private company that controlled the wholecountry. After the defeat of the uprising, Great Britain itself, that is, theEnglish parliament and the royal house, took direct control of India.
- The repressions began. Having captured Delhi, the British staged a real massacre, mercilessly cracking down on everyone who seemed suspicious to them. Even Bahadur Shah, the last padishah of the Indian Mughal Empire, was arrested, and his son and grandchildren were shot.
- British policy towards India has changed. This was the only positive consequence of the sepoy uprising - the British government realized that they had tightened the screws too tight. As a result, some land laws were relaxed, which limited the arbitrariness of the feudal lords, which helped to slightly appease the peasants, and at the same time, large feudal lords received a number of other privileges, which ensured their support.
