- My name is Zacharias Jansen. I invented the first compound microscope and telescope in the Netherlands during the 1600s!
- My name is Anton van Leeuwenhoek. I am NOT going to buy one of Zacharias's microscopes, so I decided to invent my own! It looked like a tiny paddle the size of a sunglass lens. I looked at everything I possibly could through this microscope and even discovered bacteria by looking at dental scrapings!
- My name is Robert Hooke. Anton van Leeuwenhoek was one of my scientific colleagues. I loved all aspects of science, including physics, chemistry, and biology. One day when I was looking at a piece of cork underneath the microscope, the little chambers I saw reminded me of cells.
- I am Sir Issac Newton. I published a ground breaking book on how planets move due to gravity. Hooke made a claim that I was inspired by Hooke's work in physics. After he said that, we've had a very tense relationship!
- I'm Matthias Schleiden. I studied plants underneath a microscope. I realized that every plant I have looked at were made from cells! I worked with another scientist named Theodore Schwann, a scientist that studied animal cells. Together, we worked together on the Cell Theory.
- I am Robert Remak, a Jewish scientist. I did a lot of research regarding where cells come from. However, my work was stolen by Rudolph Virchow when he backed up Schwann's theory that cells originate from other cells. not free cell formation!
