- Burwell V Hobby Lobby was a case that in stand for the civil liberties and the Freedom of Religion in the United States. The story behind the case begins with the Green family and their beliefs. Since they follow the Christian faith system, they felt that paying for contraception was "immoral" and should not be under the Affordable Care Act. They later decided to take action by taking this suit to court.
- By 2013 they had been granted a trial with the Supreme Court over further decision.
- On September 12th 2012, they decide to challenge this decision and take it to the court.
- They emphasized that it prohibited the Free Exercise Clause which the district and court of appeals denied.
- When they finally argued to the court. It a rose the question on whether it was against the Free Exercise and Religious Freedom restoration act. The final decision was 5-4 in favor of Hobby Lobby. The courts judgement came from the fact that it was against their religious principles to hold them accountable for the actions of allowing this medicine through the ACA.
