Fever 1793 Essie Baker

Fever 1793 is a story about a young girl that went through many things in the Yellow Fever epidemic. My favorite scene is when Mother returns to the coffeehouse. Mattie was working at the coffeehouse with her partner Eliza when the president returned to the town which caused almost everybody to leave to see him including Mattie. As people started to follow the president a carriage pulled up and Mother stepped out of the carriage. When Mother stepped out of the carriage and Mattie saw her, Mattie described her as a fragile bird. Mattie was happy to see her mother and relieved to see she was alive. Mattie was also very sad the Mother looked like she barely survived. This scene is important to the story because it shows how much Mattie missed her mother and what kind of impact she had on her life. This also shows how much Mattie matured while Mother was away at the farm.
