  • The Maori wanted to trade with others overseas but they could not trade because they had no flag and they kept getting confiscated by the people in the sea so they wrote to the king to seek for help from him. October 5th 1831.

  • James Busby arrives as support for the Maori and he helps protect them from the people which are coming for the Maori. He was able to help the Maori while also helping his own country by allowing them to trade with the Maori and doing many other activities. 5th May 1833.

  • The people of Aotearoa were deciding which flag to pick between two flags, the flag here was the flag that they picked they were deciding which flag to pick because that was the flag that they would use to represent themselves while trading and they needed the flag so the people would not confiscate their stuff in the sea. Date March 1834 9th or 20th.

  • The year after the flag came the people decided to make a declaration of peace so that their would be less violence and probably some other important things. This declaration of peace was also similar to the thing that basically every person in school knows about the treaty. This was also the document which completed the alliance between the Maori and the British. 28th October 1835.
  • After a while more signatures were being added to the declaration of peace because they agreed on what they read inside the document, by July 1839 the document was able to achieve 18 more signatures. Even though this had happened they didn't really trust the foreigners and didn't allow them to make the laws
