  • My love.
  • "But we loved with a love that was more than love --" (Line 9).
  • The poem begins by telling the readers that Annabel Lee lives "In a kingdom by the sea" (Line 2). While being there, she could not think of anything else but her one true love.
  • "The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me" (Lines 21-22).
  • The author further explains that during the time they fell in love, they both was not as mature as they needed to be.
  • "But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older we -- Of many far wiser than we" (Lines 27-29).
  • Because they were in love and they were nothing but children, "A wind blew out of a cloud..," which was a way for her and her love to separate (Line 15). Annabel Lee had to be taken away and put into a "sepulchre" (Line 19).
  • "And so, all the night tide, I lie down by the side; Of my darling -- my darling -- my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea -- In her tomb by the surrounding sea ( Lines 38-41)
  • The author further explains that the cause of Annabel Lee's death is that the angel's were angry at how powerful their love were, and the angles did not like what they were seeing.
  • Then, the author explains that no one, not even "the demons down under the sea" make him stop loving her ever after her death (Line 31). This demonstrates that he truly loves her and his love will carry on for her no matter what.
  • The author ends the poem by saying that as he rest and goes to sleep, he dreams of Annabel Lee and the stars helps to put him at ease because it allows him to "feel the bright eyes; Of the beautiful Annabel Lee" (Lines 36-37).
