- Gandalf convinces Bilbo and 13 dwarves to follow him on the adventure to the Misty Mountains, where Thorin's treasure lies in Smaug's lair. At first Bilbo

- Gandalf sends them off on the mission and disappears. Along their journey, they come across 3 Trolls, and Bilbo being the burglar is tasked with stealing their swords. They catch him and he is useless as the rest of the dwarves and Gandalf save him. Gandalf turns the trolls to stone, and Thorin takes a magic sword.
- Falling action
- The gold is all MINE
- The group of dwarves then enter a cave of goblins, where Bilbo is once again useless. As they are escaping the cave, Bilbo finds a magic ring, which gives him invisibility powers. The ring previously belonged to Gollum, and he forever continues to look for it.
- Resolution
- The group arrives at Smaug's lair and Bilbo enters first using the ring, finding his weak point. Smaug realizes Bilbo is in the cave, and almost kills him but he escapes at the last second. Smaug leaves his lair and attacks the town out of spite for them trying to take the treasure, and Bard kills him in his weak spot.

- The news of Smaug's death spreads and everyone in the lands wants the treasure, which Thorin selfishly keeps for himself, starting the Battle of The Five Armies.
- “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
- Bilbo returns home after a year full of adventure, wanting more. Tired of his old life of sitting at home drinking tea, he begs Gandalf to excite his life, and Bilbo's story full of adventures begins once again.
