- Joseph E. Brown, John B. Gordon, Alfred H. Colquitt were the three in the Bourbon Triumvirate and they encouraged growth in business and industry. They pushed Georgia to become more self-sufficient by producing and manufacturing its own goods.
- International Cotton Exposition
- He was the editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper from 1880 to 1899. He was a vocal supporter of industry in Georgia. He described the rebuilding as the "New South" and the name stuck as the New South Era.

- In a famous speech, Henry Grady described the south as a region rebuilding toward a brighter future. The name stuck and from 1877 to the mid-1890s is called the New South Era.
