- A rainy day stops the children from having fun outside, however Mrs. M, the teacher, has other plans to keep the children's mind stimulated.

- Between the ages five to eight, children can now understand and combine multiple sentences which is why Simon Says tests their listening skills and cognitive skills. - Due to the routine Mrs. M enforces daily, some of the children are now used to their day-to-day schedule without getting too antsy. However, this is a situation that requires clear and direct instructions.
- *Sings* Time for your checkup. Time for your check up. I'm gonna check your ears, check your eyes, find out, how much you've grooowwwwwwn....
- At the age of five, children should be able to understand certain words, even if they mispronounce them. Some may pronounce "r" as "w" and "f" as "fink". (Language Development: 5-8 Years, 2021)

- Maya's mom is teaching clear communication skills by letting Maya talk without dismissing her, and then speaking once she is finished. Furthermore, parents have a large impact on the language development of children, especially since children absorb what they see, hear, or experience. (Focus on the Family, 2022)

- Maya's mom is correcting her without sounding condescending and scolding her for pronouncing it wrong more than once or twice. Plus, celebrating Maya's victory in saying the word correctly will motivate her to continue doing it.

- Children will try negotiating to get what they want. For example, in this slide, Maya is negotiating the fact that she should be able to watch television since she ate all of her vegetables. - Children are now able to understand jokes and riddles by the time they are eight years of age which is why Maya's mom is not only teaching her humor, but use abstract language as well. (Language Development: 5-8 Years, 2021)

- Story-teling is a great language development tactic because children between the ages of six to eight are able to use different sentence pronouns, stories are becoming long and more detailed, and create a logical sequence. (Language Development: 5-8 Years, 2021)
