- Viola disguised as Cesario returns to Olivia for the second time. Olivia reveals that she is in love with Cesario and attempts to persuade her to give Orsino a chance and accept him as a suitor.
- Sir Toby is helped in his persuading by Fabian, who assures Sir Andrew that Olivia was simply tormenting him and attempting to make him jealous.
- Toby has always urged Andrew to remain and try despite Olivia not returning his emotions and the fact that he is running out of money.
- When Antonio encounters Cesario, he mistakenly believes he is his beloved Sebastian. He mentions fighting for him, and two guards appear to inquire as to what is going on.
