- Camillo Cavour: Was a politician from Piedmont, one of the stronger and more unified Italian state. He wanted to defeat Austria and unite Italy. He wanted a constitutional monarchy and became the prime minister.

Parliament is filled with corruption and tensions rise between industrialized north and rural, poor Southern Italy. The unification was complete with Venetia in 1866 and Rome in 1870 becoming part of Italy.
