- i always hear so much about groundwater and the environment but, i don't even know what groundwater is!?
- well groundwater is the water that is absorbed into the soil after it rains!
- ohhh that makes sense. so groundwater is just found in the soil?
- correct! the groundwater is stored in the different cracks of soil and rocks which are called aquifers. the water is being naturally filtered when going through layers of these aquifers
- thats super cool! so is there just copious amount of groundwater because of all of the rain?
- its almost exactly like that, there are billions of gallons of groundwater and thats just in the United States!
- ok but i am confused. who needs the ground water? it's not like we can just go into the ground and get it.
- as funny as it would be if we had to dig to get all of our water, its actually the rural environments that thrive off of groundwater. 97% of rural population depend on it
- oh i didn't even think about that. but why do they need it?
- well, in areas like that, they don't get much rain sometimes. the groundwater helps the plants grow if there hasn't been much rain because its already in the ground. not to mention it is also a big source of our everyday drinking water!
- so i hear about groundwater all over the news but i don't know why. What is happening to it?
- woah! thats so cool, thank you so much for all of the information! i will be sure to keep groundwater in mind everytime i recycle!
- so then how do we save it?
- it could be something as simple as recycling or taking quicker shows
- so what is happening is when the water goes through the aquifers which add good minerals to the water but adds in pollution because of all of the sewage in the environment!
