  • Good Day, my name is Nurse Smith, I hope you are well. we may have an outbreak at Springville Primary School. See, it started a week ago when one of our grade R learners was brought to the sick bay by one of his teachers. This child presented with fever, cough, rash on the body and respiratory problems. The child had to be stabilised, and the parents were contacted as well as an ambulance and the child was taken to the emergency room. Since then, we have had over 20 children in the school presenting with similar symptoms. We may have an outbreak in our hands.
  • There is a sudden increasing number of sick children at school with similar symptoms of cough, fever and respiratory problems. This has resulted in a high amount of absenteeism. The school health nurse then contacts the local department of health for assistance.

  • Quantitative research is ideal for studying a contagious pathogen affecting a school because it allows us to collect and analyze data from many students quickly. This helps us identify infection rates, track transmission patterns, and determine the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring we can respond effectively to control the outbreak.
  • I agree with the quantitative approach. We’ll use a surveys, polls or questionnaires to determine any common patterns or trends. This can assist in controlling the organisms and developing a vaccine. This bug seems to be very contagious.
