  • The Sugar act took effect on September 29, whose goal was to cut the duty on foreign molasses from 6 to 3 people per gallon. It retained a high duty on foreign refined sugar. The act also prohibited the importation of all foreign rum.
  • Boston Massacre (March 5, 1770)
  • The stamp act started in 1765 on March 22nd. The purpose of the Stamp Act was to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven year War. The act required the colonists to pay taxes in the form of a stamp on various forms, documents, papers, and more. This angered the colonists and started boycotts and riots on tax collectors.After months of all the boycotts and riots the Act was repealed in March 1766.

  • The Townshend Acts were passed in 1767. This act was a series of measures that taxed goods imported to the american colonies. there were a total of four acts and they were meant to impose duties on British china, glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea imported to the colonies. The purpose was to help pay the expenses involved in governing the American colonies. the acts ended in April 1770.

  • The Boston massacre took place on March 5, 1770. The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a Boston mob and a squad of British soldiers. It all started when the British troops stationed came to blows against colonists. The colonists were also already mad from being unfairly taxed. The angry colonist mob took their anger out on the troops, by throwing snowballs and other items. It ended with the British being supported in trial by future 2nd president John Adams.
  • The Boston Tea Party incident was at about midnight on December 16,1773. It was caused due to the protest of the British Parliament's tea acts of 1773. American colonists were frustrated at taxation without representation, so they dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. This was the spark of the American Revolution.
  • the intolerable acts were a series of punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. There were four total acts, the Boston Port Act, The Massachusetts Government Act, The Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. The Quebec Act of 1774 is also included sometimes as one of the Coercive Acts. All four acts were put in place for consequences of the Boston Tea Party. the first act closed the Harbor, the second increased the military governor, the third protected British, and the fourth allowed military troops to be in housing.
