  • In his story "Harrison Bergeron," Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that people will never truly be equal. If people were truly equal, there would be massive "handicaps" that would truly burden people. If everyone were equal, there would be no way to improve people's qualities, so everyone would have to be burdened until they are equal. This means no one could have an outstanding quality and better the community. Equality is not always the best thing to wish for.
