The undeveloped and poor state of Russia was quickly defeated by the Axis powers, the country was lacking food and resources. March 8, 1916, women’s day, women workers protested for low wages and poor conditions. The next day, more people joined the protest and Petrograd turned chaotic, and a revolution took place.

The Russian civil war, 1918-1920
Prime minister Alexander Kerensky promoted general Kornilov as the commander in chief, but he rebelled against the government . In order to defeat the rebels, Kerensky let Trotsky defended Petrograd, which gave the Bolsheviks more power and weapons.

November 6, 1917 The Bolsheviks took over most key buildings of the government without any resistance. Lenin announced an election for the Russian people to choose the party they like, instead of a Bolshevik victory, the socialist revolutionary party won more seats.
After the Bolsheviks lost the election, Lenin simply decided to take over militarily, which angered most parties, and they form the white army to rebel against the Bolsheviks. During the period, Trotsky set up the loyal Read army and the secret police called Chhek, which contribute in developing the Red terror. Many were executed.
