Odysseus goes to the Land of the Dead by following the instructions he was given. The offerings he presented attract many spirts and the spirits of his mother, a crewman and a prophet come to him. His mother informs him that Poseidon was angered by what he did to the Cyclops, and he is warned to not touch the Cattle of Helios. Achilles, his old companion, comes and laments the torments of the Land of the Dead, driving home the value of the life Odysseus still possesses. After seeing this he does not want to spend any more time in the land of the dead and he leaves.
Cattle of the Sun God
I TOLD YOU NOT TO EAT THEM!
Odysseus is informed of the dangers he will face on the sea, and he is informed of the Sirens. Odysseus instructs his crew to tie him to the mast and stuff their ears with beeswax. This is done because the Sirens sing irresistible tunes that lure people to the rocky shores and leave them shipwrecked. Odysseus was the only person onboard to hear the tunes but he was tied to the mast so he couldn’t move.
Scylla and Charybdis were monsters who would devour the sailors that came near them. Odysseus follow the instructions by Circe and holds course against the cliffs of Scylla’s lair, but the heads of Scylla swoop down and eat 6 men from Odysseus' crew. To escape this, Odysseus grabbed the branches of a tree and descended into the water until Charybdis threw some logs. He rode them and managed to get out of the whirlpool.
Odysseus and his crew are forced to hide because of the storm that Zeus brought. When they got to this island, Odysseus warned his men to never eat the cattle there, but after eating all the supplies, his crew ate the cattle. When Odysseus finds out about this, he goes and asks the gods for forgiveness, but Helios had already blackmailed Zeus into punishing him and his crew. When the storm eases and they set sail, Zeus fires at their boat and kills everyone except Odysseus.
