Proclamation of 1763
King George III declared that all colonists could not cross the Appalachian Mountains; it was their western boundary. This was to separate the colonists from the Indians and to prevent future wars and expense. This angered many colonists, especially ones who owned shares in land companies, such as the Ohio Company of Virginia. The Proclamation made tension between Britain and the colonies, which Britain then placed more taxes on the colonists for defending the 13 colonies, creating more tension. Indians traded with the British and the colonists and regarded them both as enemies. Colonists still migrated across the Appalachian Mountains anyway.
