- Before the war, a women's main job was to take care of children. Most women didn't work, but instead depended on husbands or fathers to provide for them.
- During the war women began to take on more roles of men including nursing, working in a factory and running their families farm.

- By the 1920s, women began to take on even more. They began doing jobs previously associated with men, as well a participated in sports such as boxing
- There were also now fewer clothing restrictions. Women now wore "shocking" bathing suits, and shorter skirts. New activities also became popular, such as the "scandalous" Charleston dance.
- The Woman's Christian Temperance Union used their new found influence to convince the government to ban all sale and consumption of alcohol. According to them it led to: wife and child abuse, poverty, and many other things.
- In the 1921 election Agnes Macphail won her riding in Ontario to become Canada's first female Member of Parliament. She was later appointed to Senate, but passed away before it was fulfilled.
