Catherine McAuley was born on September 29th 1778 at Stormanstown House, in Dublin, Ireland. Her parents were James and Elinor McAuley. Her family was very close and characterised by the family love and faithful happiness. She had a sister and brother.

Catherine had an inheritance from an Irish Couple that she had helped for over twenty years and she used that money to build the House of Mercy, which opened in 1872.

Catherine McAuley died on 11th November 1841. Catherine has started a House of Mercy that still lives on today. There is many Mercy Nuns and many Houses of Mercy all over the world.
Catherine was a model to all, as nowadays lots of people have learnt from her works and been amazed by the insight and the consistency of her purpose.
