- Mommies, someone at school told me it should be illegal for you guys to be married and I told them no way.
- Wow, that's a long time to wait.
- Well mommy and I were not legally allowed to be married until 2015 when the case Obergefell v Hodges went to the top court.

- So was Florida one of the states allowed gay marriage before 2015
- No, Florida did not allow same-sex marriage until all the states were required to do so.
- Some people in the United States are against Gay Marriage, and this can be due to their religion, and others may feel like it will disrupt the typical family structure. Along with this, some people may believe that a family must have a mother and a father, and if it has any other combination it is wrong. People can be raised to think about homosexual marriage in a negative, positive, or neutral way.
- Interesting, are more people for gay marriages?
- Yes. The amount of people that are for same-sex marriages has grown substantially.
- Although same-sex marriage was legal in some states such as California in 2008, It was not legal in every state in the United States until 2015. Same-sex marriage was made legal in every state in the U.S. after the Supreme Court case Obergefell v Hodges. In this case, the court ruled that it was unjust for same-sex marriages to be illegal as this violated the fourteenth amendment.
- Can people have two mommies or two daddies all over the world?
- Unfortunately no, some countries still do not allow same-sex marriages.
- Florida was not one of the states that was for same sex marriage as they did not legalize it until it was legal in every state. Prior to Obergefell v Hodges, there were bans and restrictions for homosexuals. However, there were cases that fought for the legality of same sex marriages. An example of one of these cases is Huntsman v. Heavillin. The first state to legalize same sex marriages was Massachusetts in 2004.

- More people are becoming more accepting of gay marriage. Recently, Liz Cheney, a member of the house of Representatives apologized for being against same-sex marriage previously. Today over half of the American population is for same-sex marriages. This is most common in young adults. Before same-sex marriages were legal, people that were apart of the LGBTQ community could be dismissed from their job or denied services.
- Gay marriage is still not legal across the globe. Countries such as Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Iran. Nevertheless, more and more countries are allowing same-sex marriage. Some of these countries where gay marriage is legal include France, Brazil, and New Zealand.
- In the end, people who are apart of the LGBTQ community are able to be married in 2021 as society has evolved to accept gay marriages. People in the LGBTQ community are receiving more civil rights now than they did in previous years.
