- Viola is stranded on Illyria after a shipwreck with her captain, but she cannot find her brother who was lost during the shipwreck. She decides to dress up as a man to work for Duke Orsino and soon falls in love with him.
- For such disguise as haply shall becomeConceal me what I am, and be my aid.
- The form of my intent. I'll serve this dukeThou shall present me as an eunuch to him.

- Viola dresses up as a man using the name Cesario and starts to work for the Duke and hopes to be able to be with him. Duke is interested in Olivia, a girl that does not feel the same way for the Duke, so he sends Cesario to go visit Olivia and tell her how much the Duke loves her.
- Unfold the passion of my love,Surprise her with discourse of my dear faith:
- I'll do my bestto woo your lady
- On your attendance, my lord; here.
- Sir Toby (Olivia's uncle), Sir Andrew, and Feste the Clown is drunk one night at Olivia's house. They start to get very loud, which makes Malvolio shout at them, but Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Feste just makes fun of them and teases him.
- Out o' tune, sir: ye lie. Art any more than asteward?
- My masters, are you mad? or what are you?
- Olivia continues to mourn for her brother who has passed shortly after her father passed too a year ago. Valentine claims that she will mourn for seven more years and will not look at any other person that does not live in her home,
- Good madonna, why mournest thou?
- The element itself, till seven years' heat,Shall not behold her face at ample view.
- Good fool, for my brother's death.
- Meanwhile, Viola, dressed as Cesario, goes to Olivia to confess the Duke's love for her. This does not work and Olivia starts to have feelings for Cesario instead of the Duke.
- My lord and master loves you: O, such love
- Me thinks I feel this youth's perfectionsWith an invisible and subtle stealthTo creep in at mine eyes.
- Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Feste plan on seeking revenge on Malvolio after how he treated them last time when they were drinking and having fun. They write a letter, pretending to be Olivia, and write that she actually has feelings for him. Malvolio celebrates and does what the instructions in the letter say.
- He shall think, by the letters that thou wilt drop,that they come from my niece, and that she's inlove with him.
- I thank thee: I will smile; I will doeverything that thou wilt have me.
