- In June of 1793, the Jacobins seized control of the National Convection and started the 10 month-long Reign of Terror in which suspected enemies of the Revolution were executed via guillotine. 17,000 were officially tried and executed.
- The Girondins who survived the Regin of Terror approved France´s first bicameral legislature. The protests were quickly shut down by Napolean Bonaparte.
- The Directory which held the executive power was riddled with corruption for 4 years and the military generals had most of the power.
- Napolean staged a coup d´état on November 9, 1799.
- The coup essentially ended the French Revolution.
- Napolean becomes consul for life in 1799 and later becomes emperor in 1804.
