Text z Príbehu

  • The scene begins with Earnest, Oedipus, Lysistrata, and Hamlet seated at the table. After dinner, the four continue to drink their wine as Oedipus begins to introduce a deeper conversation topic, one he always thinks about.
  • Certainly I do sometimes wish that our life plan was made for us, it would save me the headache of making sure I am doing everything correctly.
  • Do you all believe that our lives have always been predesigned before we were even born? Or do you believe we truly have free will?
  • Well Oedipus, I would like to think that what I have accomplish in my life would be of my own doing and not because I was destined for it. To create the rebellion I have, it would almost belittle it if you were to say God intended it all to happen.
  • Here, Lysistrata weighs her opinion on Oedipus' question. In response, Earnest's wit makes an appearance on his opinion of Lysistrata's plan to end the war in her city.
  • Yes, I would not think that God would intend to have all the women band together and withhold sex from their spouses. Lysistrata, I do respect and admire your devotion to the ending the war but I am also glad that I was not there.
  • Hamlet's thoughts on Oedipus' question slightly echo his statement in his "To be or not to be" soliloquy. Without specifically mentioning it, he references the fact that it was his uncle's decision to murder his father.
  • Well, I would like to think that we decide everyday to live or not to live and that no other being is making that choice for us. I do believe that the freedom in making our decisions is great, but it has come at a great cost in my life in the past.
  • And you, Hamlet? What are your thoughts on free will?
