- The antagonit in the story is the narrator. he begins the story by telling his adiance that he is not crazy, and will prove his sanity by calmly telling us how wise and cunning he was in planing and carring out the murder of old man. he tells the listener that his motive for murder is the old mans vulturen eye.
- Climex
- Every night, every single night... right at midnight, Poe would stalk the old man he was taking care of. Every night at midnight he would shine the lantern into the old man vulture eye. He would use such dissimulation due to the situation he was in. Poe was never nicer to the old man than before the night he killed him. Using words such as, How did you pass the night to ease the old man.
- Falling Action
- On the eight night Poe was chuckling at the fact on how smart he was. Poe stood in the doorway for an hour. The old man was sitting up in bed and Poe knew this because he didn't hear him lay back down. Poe could hear the beating heart of the old man. Poe was scared the neighbors could hear it so he knew he had to do something.
- Resolution

- Poe JUMPS into the room as both old man and Poe yell. Poe pushed old man off the bed. Pulling the mattress over him suffocating the old man. He was dead, Stone dead. His job was not yet done.
