Baron De Montesquieu (1689-1755) Baron De Montesquieu was a French political philosopher during the Enlightenment. Montesquieu's most significant publication was called, On The Spirit Of Laws, in which he argued in order to prevent corruption, government should be broken into three branches. Montesquieu's ideas of a Separation of Powers have become the blueprint for many governments that exist in the world today.
