- Jim and Della made each other very happy. They struggled financially, however, rendering Christmas shopping difficult. Having only one more day to make a purchase, Della still didn't have much to spend.

- I've been saving for months, and this is all I've got. It isn't easy when you make 20 bucks a week...
- Mme Sofronie.Hair Goods of All Kinds
- While noticing her reflection, Della was reminded of her long hair, as she undid it and noticed as it fell down to her knees. Along with Jim's watch, it was one of the couples' most prized possessions. This gave her an idea...
- On she went, out the door and down the stairs toward the street, where she would make a few stops...
- Will you buy my hair?
- Hey Madame Sofronie, you don't look so 'Sofronie'.
- What's that supposed to mean?
- I buy hair. Take yer hat off and let's have a sight at the looks of it.
- Give it to me quick.
- $20.
- Off it went. For the next 2 hours, Della would search every single store nearby for the perfect gift.
- Finally, she arrived at her last stop.
- Jewelry & Expensive things
- This is perfect...
- She had finally found the perfect gift. It was a platinum fob chain which would go along wonderfully with Jim, or rather James, Dillingham Young's watch.
- ...$21...
- How much for the chain?
- After purchasing the chain and making her way home with the remaining 87 cents, Della rushed home to repair the damages done to her hair, which she had purposefully sacrificed in the name of love and generosity.
- Jim's gonna kill me... or worse, call me a Coney Island chorus girl!
- Storage
- It's 7 o'clock. Jim's never late, where could he possibly be?
- *Thump* *Thump* *Thump*
- Please, God, make him think I am still pretty.
- ...
- Jim, I know I cut my hair, but it'll grow back! Jim, say Merry Christmas! Jim, it was to get you a nice gift! Jim, don't look at me like that!
- You cut off your hair?
- And sold! You still like me, don't you?
- Unlike the magi who brought valuable gifts to Jesus, Jim and Della's gifts had none.
- You say your hair is gone... Don't get me wrong, Della, there's no change in hairstyle you could ever make that would change the way I feel about you. But, you should see my gift, and you'll understand my reaction.
- I got you those combs you've always wanted.
- Jim, don't worry. My hair is too short for them now but it grows so fast!
- I almost forgot yours. I got you a chain to go with your watch! I searched everywhere for it.
- Dell, let's put the gifts away for now. I might've sold my watch for the combs... Yikes, anyways, wanna put the chops on?
- The magi were the ones who pioneered exchanging Christmas presents. Since they were wise men, so were their gifts.
- Unlike the magi, Jim and Della were not wise,. However, out of all those who give gifts, they are the wisest because they act out of love. Therefore, they are the magi.
