Tent-like homes of long poles laid in the shape of a tall cone covered with animal hides. They could be very large but were easy to transport. The outside could be decorated with painted scenes of daily life.
A gathering held by many communities. Traditionally religious ceremonies to gain wisdom from and give thanks to the Creator. A modern powwow is an event for Native people to dance, sing, socialize and honor their rich culture.
Calendars made by painting pictographs on bison hide to record important events by Native Americans in North America. The Blackfeet, Mandan, Kiowa, Lakota, and other Plains tribes used winter counts extensively.
