- Two Women stand before Shlomo for Judgement
- No one else lived with them
- Woman 1 claims that Woman 2 swapped their babies while she was asleep
- There were two women who had a dispute and stood before King Shlomo for his judgement.
- Both Women continue to argue over the baby
- The first woman said that: both her and the other woman live in the same house; and that she gave birth to a child in the house. And 3 days after she had a baby, the other woman also gave birth. There was no one else with them in the house.
- Shlomo decides to divide the baby with a sword
- Woman 1 said: The other woman's child died in the middle of the night because she overlay it, she woke up at midnight and swapped our children. And when I woke up in the morning to feed my child, it was dead, but when I saw the child in the morning light, behold it was not my child.
- Woman 2 is revealed as the true mother
- Woman 2 said: "No the living is my child, and the dead is yours."Woman 1 replied: "No the dead is your child, and the living is mine."Shlomo said: "This one says this and the other one says that"
- No, the live one is my son, and the dead one is yours!
- Shlomo asks for a sword and says: "Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other".Woman 1 said: "My lord, give her the living child, just please don't kill it."Woman 2 said: "It shall be none of ours, divide it".
- It shall be neither yours nor mine; cut it in two!
- Please, my lord, give her the live child; only don’t kill it!
- Shlomo answered: "Give (Woman 2) the living child, and don't harm it, because she is the true mother".-And all of Yisroel knew that Shlomo was wise, as he had the wisdom of HaShem in him.
- Give the live child to her, and do not put it to death; she is its mother
