- In simple terms militarism is the belief in a strong military and aggressively using it to expand and defend territories. Military alliances are collaborations between countries. During the interwar period tensions between countries were very high, this caused a lot of distrust and motive for countries to follow their own initiatives.

- 1914–1941: During World War I, Great Britain, France, and Russia formed the Allied powers (also known as the Triple Entente). Later, Italy joined in 1915, and the United States joined in 1940. The Central Powers, which at the time included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, were opposed by the allied powers. After the treaty of Versailles, the allied powers didnt change much until the start of WW2,while the Central powers(later known as the Axis Powers) changed alliances frequently

- Nazi-Germany invaded Austria and demolished Czechoslovakia in 1938.They disregarded the treaty of Versilles as an action of hunger for expanding.
