Martin Luther was born in Germany in 1483. His dad, Hans, was a copper miner and his mom was a homemaker taking care of Martin and his three siblings.
Early Life:Luther's dad knew that mining was a tough business and wanted his promising son to have better: He wanted him to become a lawyer. At age 7, Martin Luther entered school in Mansfeld. At 14 Martin Luther went to Magdeburg, where he continued studying. In 1498, he returned to Eisleben and enrolled in a school, studying grammar, rhetoric and logic.
Becoming a monk: In 1505 he earns a Master Degree at Erfurt and begins law studies; but in a thunderstorm on July 2 he vows to become a monk and enters the Order of Augustinian Hermits. In 1507, Martin Luther is Ordained and celebrates his first Mass.
1512 Becomes a doctor of theology 1513 Begins lecturing on The Psalms 1515 Lectures on Romans and is appointed district Vicar over ten monasteries 1516 Begins lecturing on Galatians
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther began the Protestant Reformation, by nailing The 95 Thesis, that spoke against papal practices including selling indulgences
In 1518, at a meeting of Augustinians in Heidelberg, he defends his theology; in December of that year after refusing to recant, Frederick the Wise protects Luther from being handfed over to Rome.
